This is VERY exciting! Our Tech Club considered applying but the school has not installed iLife '11 yet. But I have some AMAZING Scratch creators and we would be happy to share and support students that might want to learn about Scratch. I would also be available to help with logistics or in any other way I or we can! Go create! Hawai'i is behind you in spirit!

We are happy to be part of ROW once again. We teach first and second graders and work with first through seventh graders in a ROW group that meets on Fridays. We teach at a Quaker school in North Carolina, USA.

Hi all,
I have started this several times and can't seem to get it right. Carol Anne asked me to share my feelings about the recent earth quakes in Christchurch, New Zealand but I find I can't really except to say that times here are not normal. Our central city is destroyed, the eastern suburbs are badly damaged and in some parts the land is now too unstable to rebuild on. Waimairi School is very fortunate to be in a part of the city that looks almost untouched. Some schools on this side of town are sharing their site with schools from the eastern side of town by have a split shift. -One school in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
I am not underway with ROW yet as we have only just started back after the earth quake on 22nd February. We did start on the 17th and 18th of March but had to close again because of raw sewerage leaking into the street outside our gate. The return of so many "functioning" children put too much pressure on the damaged sewerage system. We now have large tanks and porter loos installed thanks to our hard working and fast talking Principal Mike Anderson. For the next two weeks we have parent teacher interviews after school and then a week after that the usual school holidays begin. Fitting ROW in will be a challenge.
I feel so, so sad at the loss of our beautiful city and my heart aches and tears flow. I felt that Christchurch had soul and incredible beauty and I am now in mourning. How bad I feel though when I think of Japan and the dreadful catastrophe they are experiencing. Our loss is just so insignificant compared to their loss. I can't even begin to understand how they feel. As a Christian I pray for God's healing for us all. I look forward to being involved in ROW 14.

Well how's that for someone who couldn't share their feelings? The feelings just seemed to flow like the tears when I got going. My friends would ask, "What's new? When don't you share both feelings and tears?".
Thanks Carol Anne.

Best wishes,
Chris

Dear Chris!
Our hearts are all there with you! And with Masa, in Japan! We are so much more than teachers sharing a project. We are family!
Thank you for sharing this with us all! I know your stories touch our hearts in ways that you will never know. We are connected. Your city will rebuild. The people of New Zealand are strong in their faith and resolve. Please let us know if there is anything that our community can do for you.
WIth much love!
Carol Anne

Thanks Carol Anne.
I know that we will rebuild and I am very positive about that. My class is upbeat and positive too and have great plans for an improved city involving a mono rail to get around the city more easily and buildings with earthquake proof design. We are having fun and taking a positive view of things. Every so often though the enormity of the problem takes over. Now to add to it all my father is back in hospital. The 5th visit for my parents in eight weeks. One day at a time!!
It is lovely to know that you are thinking of us here but really there is nothing one can do. Carrying on as normal is the only way to see it through.
Love and best wsihes,
Chris

Dear Chris,

My heart was breaking as I read your words. Thank you so much for sharing. It is difficult to read of such difficult times and sadness for those who are so far away in distance. We have and will continue to keep you in our prayers.

This truly is the beauty of this project, a sincere connection to others and an ability to somewhat understand and appreciate what others are called to experience. You and your students are not just a news story we hear about, feel badly about and then go on with our lives. This ROW connection makes your family. New Zealand and Japan are in our prayers daily. We echo Carol Anne's words, if there is anything we can do for you, please let us know.

Chris,

I too share the care and concern expressed by both Carol Anne and Sheila. I can feel the grief for your city in your words. My heart breaks for you all. I wish I could hop on a plane and fly directly to Christchurch, roll up my sleeves and make a difference somehow. My 7th graders have been chatting in Edmodo with the Selwyn House Year 6 girls. Their descriptions of the quake have truly touched my students, yet their resilience is exhibited in the virtual laughter they share discussing Justin Bieber, their likes and dislikes, oh and porta-loos.

Chris, if there is anything your ROW family can do for you, please do not hesitate to ask. We are connected for life, ROW brings a family-like closeness to the schools involved. Please know that we love you and you are in our prayers. I pray that God brings healing to you all, a peace only HE can give, and comfort knowing this is our temporary home! You're friendship to us all is a blessing, please know how much we care! Your friends at Howe Public Schools in Howe, Oklahoma!
